Acid Reflux, otherwise know as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a condition in which the liquid content of the stomach refluxes into the esophagus. The liquid can cause lining of the esophagus to become inflamed or even damaged. The liquid usually contains acid and pepsin (produced by the stomach), and may also contain bile that has backed-up into the stomach from the duodenum.
Acid Reflux is caused by overeating, poor food choices, drinking with meals and bad food combinations. Eating too many acidic foods and a lack of digestive enzymes coupled with compromised digestive health from ongoing abuse can result in acid reflux. If left untreated, acid reflux can lead to serious complications, such as ulcers, strictures (scarring of the esophagus), and even inflammation and infection of the throat, larynx and lungs.
